Vis to Split to Dubrovnik

We left for Dubrovnik this morning.Daniel read his book so to him it felt short! when we got there we where soon on our way to  a walled city,there we walked on top of the wall and had dinner and dessert.Then we went home.The whole day was very(temperature)hot.

Once we arrived in Dubrovnik, we walked the walls on top of the city. It's bizarre how the cruise ships drwarf the city.

Croatia - Vis Island beaches

The beaches on Vis are some of the most beautiful and uninhabited ones I've been to. The water is crystal clear. There are no sand beaches however - white stones instead.

One of the highlights was the visit to the blue cave on the island of Bisevo. You enter through a small opening of the cave (everyone in the boat has to duck their heads, except Daniel) and then your jaw drops open...the water is glowing the most glorious blue color.

Croatia - Vis Island

Vis is a magical island and perfect place to get away from the world and really feel like you are on vacation. The island has 2 main towns - Vis and Komiza, which are about 10km apart. We stayed in old Vis town, which was perfect - close to everything. We rented a car (an old fiat convertible!) and discovered the gorgeous secluded beaches - one was a steep hike down (totally worth it), and another was a down a windy gravel road (we wondered if the fiat would make it back up). Once you reach these beaches, there are only a few people - no americans - white rocks and sparkling blue water which is crystal clear. The scenery is outstanding.

The people of Vis are extremely nice, friendly, and relaxing. Everyone wishes you a happy vacation, and nobody bothers you or tries to sell you wares. The food is incredible, all fresh fish, eggplant, zucchini, olives and figs. Dave and Daniel had a difficult time deciding each night on either gelato or crepes. Each night, we found a new yummy place to eat either in Vis or nearby Kut. Strolling along the waterfront, you walk down ancient streets, past gorgeous sailboats with everyone hanging out on their deck, enjoying a cappuccino or crepe from a nearby street vendor.

Croatia - Hvar Island

Today we traveled to Hvar. We took a bus from Dubrovnik, which took 4.5 hours. It was extremely scenic but a bit warm on the bus. Once in Split, we enjoyed a nice refreshing drink, then boarded the fast catamaran to the island of Hvar. We had a dip in the pool and then a nice but slow dinner. Having eaten octopus for 2 courses, Daniel has challenged me (Dave) to a battle. He is determined to crush me.
(the background on this is that Daniel's favorite animal is the octopus. He is very mad at us for eating them. The challenge and agreement, is that every time we order it, he gets to have one wrestle match per order. Dave is up to 3, I'm at 1 or 2 - but he says he'll go easy on me. You should see his mad face every time we order it. I've tried to whisper my order, but he stills catches it).

Hvar feels very special. It has a small port with loads of gorgeous sail boats and nice restaurants and the vibe is very quaint and sophisticated - a bit different than we had expected - a nice pleasant surprise. The island has a reputation of being a party island, so we were thinking like a small version of Ibiza. Either we did not find that part of the island, or it's just nothing like that. We could definitely spend more time here, but tomorrow we are off to Vis, for some real off-the-beaten-track adventures. A little more pool time is in order though, since they closed it down around 7, just as Daniel was getting going.

Croatia - Dubrovnik , our first day

We've arrived in Dubrovnik and made ourselves stay awake until now. Too tired to write much - it's gorgeous - here is proof :)
